MINUTES OF THE BRANCH MEETING AT CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH ON 28TH JUNE 2003

Chairman’s opening remarks and vote of thanks

The Chairman, Christine Broadley, thanked Frances Hibbert for taking the service and Ian Green for playing the organ. She thanked the Chapel ringers for the use of the bells and for providing an excellent tea.

Apologies for absence

Apologies for absence were received from Andrew Mays, Christine Kettlety, Frank and Christine Osbaldiston and Clive Smith.

Minutes of the previous meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting, having already been circulated, were confirmed.

Matters arising from the minutes

Graham Jenkins advised that the clergy at Bollington were not in favour of anyone entering the church to ring the bells and that therefore there would be no ringing there in the future.

The 8-bell striking contest would now be held at New Mills.

Election of new members

Christine Broadley proposed and Peter Broadbent seconded that Matthew Jones of Mottram be elected a member of the Guild. This was carried.

General

The Chairman brought up the subject of training and suggested that more training should be provided by the Branch. A discussion followed after which it was decided that an ad hoc committee would be set up to discuss a traing strategy. Trevor Marchbank kindly agreed to organise it.

A discussion followed about the Yahoo Group which had recently been set up as a medium for posting details of Branch affairs. There were some strong feelings about this as the Branch had not given authority for this Group to be set up. The feeling of the meeting was that it should be suspended and the matter put on the agenda for the next meeting.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 7:00pm. Evening ringing continued at Taxal.
